Art Galleries and Shops

Perhaps P-town is best known as a thriving center of the arts since the early 20th century when American artists such as Edward Hopper established a presence here.

The Provincetown Art Association and Museum, founded in 1914, along with the Cape School of Art, continues to offer workshops and classes. Today, art galleries and studios give evidence to P-town as a hub of creative activity.

Excellent Cape Cod Beaches

The beaches near Provincetown are among the best. Race Point Beach, along the northernmost shore of Cape Cod, is the main attraction. The beach is immense, curving along the outer shore between Old Harbor Life Saving Station, nestled in the dunes, to Race Point Lighthouse at Hatches Harbor. Race Point Lighthouse, accessible by a walking trail at low tide, encapsulates all the history and scenic charm of the New England coastline.

For a truly unforgettable experience, pack a sturdy hiking shoe for a walk across the Provincetown Causeway to Long Point Beach. An isolated stretch of sand at the extreme end of Provincetown, Long Point offers a retreat from the bustle of Commercial Street, with all the scenic beauty of Provincetown Harbor. With Long Point Light Station and Wood End lighthouse, the breakwater leads to a unique option for beach lovers. For a shortcut, just jump on the boat shuttle from the marina!

Pilgrim Monument

Address: 1 High Pole Hill Rd, Provincetown, MA
Hours: 10AM - 5PM

The Pilgrim Monument and Museum is one of the most notable attractions in town, with the 252-foot granite structure towering over the town as an impressive reminder of the Pilgrim's landing here in 1620.

Most people connect the Pilgrims with Plymouth, but did you know the Mayflower spent a month anchored in what is now Provincetown Harbor, where they composed and signed the agreement called the Mayflower Compact?

The museum not only highlights this history, but in a new permanent exhibit retells the story of the Pilgrims' first landing from the perspective of the Wampanoags, the Native American inhabitants of the region who still maintain a presence on the Cape and Islands. If you're history-obsessed, this landmark could be worth a trip to P-Town all on its own.
